Everton, Burnley, Reading, Cardiff Stars Named In Iceland 23-Man World Cup Squad
Published: May 11, 2018Iceland have become the first country participating in the 2018 World Cup to announce their 23-man roster, with manager Hallgrímsson unveiling his squad at a press conference on Friday afternoon.
The squad announced must be confirmed to Fifa on June 4 and they can make changes to the roster before their first game against Argentina on June 16 only if a player is injured.
An analysis of the 23-man roster revealed that three goalkeepers, eight defenders, eight midfielders and four strikers will be on the plane to Russia.
Seven players representing British clubs have been included in the group : Kári árnason (Aberdeen), Hörður Björgvin Magnússon (Bristol City), Aron Einar Gunnarsson (Cardiff), Birkir Bjarnason (Aston Villa), Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson (Burnley), Gylfi þór Sigurðsson (Everton) and Jón Daði Böðvarsson (Reading).
Iceland have been drawn in Group D for this summer's World Cup and will also face Nigeria and Croatia in the group stage.
