Kelechi Iheanacho : We Will Show Argentina We Are From Nigeria, We Beat Them Before
Published: June 24, 2018Nigeria will do battle with their bogey team in the World Cup, Argentina on Tuesday evening, but Kelechi Iheanacho fancies the Super Eagles chances of making it to the last sixteen.
Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli has two more days to lift the morale of his players in the wake of their humiliating defeat to Croatia, which has left the South Americans on the brink of elimination from the World Cup.
Apart from La Albiceleste being familiar opponents, Iheanacho played on the same Manchester City team as goalkeeper Willy Caballero, Nicolás Otamendi and Sergio Aguero before transferring to Leicester City in the summer of 2017.
''They are a strong team as you know, we have played against them and we won, they wanted us to beat Iceland so that they come at us,'' Iheanacho told reporters in the mixed zone.
''It is going to be a difficult game for them, we have to fight together and do everything possible to beat them in that game despite they have good players and are a quality side. We need to show them we are from Nigeria.''
The Super Eagles landed in Saint Petersburg at approximately 1925 hours local time on Sunday evening and will resume training for the match against Argentina tomorrow.
