What Chelsea coach Maresca said about chief creator George after big win against Morecambe
Published: January 12, 2025
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has expressed optimism about providing more first-team opportunities for youngster Tyrique George following his impressive display in the Blues' 5-0 victory over Morecambe in the FA Cup on Saturday evening.
The highly-rated academy forward, who has yet to feature in the Premier League this season, delivered a standout performance at Stamford Bridge, playing the full 90 minutes.
Statistically, George was the chief creator during the third round FA Cup tie, having provided a game-high five key passes while registering a match-best two assists.
George set up Tosin Adarabioyo’s second goal and João Félix’s strike, to further showcase himself as future star for the Blues.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Maresca praised George's performance and emphasized his potential for a more significant role in the first team.
"Tyrique was good. ‘Tyrique is doing well for us. He has already played some games for us in the Conference League. He is the same age as Josh Acheampong so is very young but hopefully we can give them more chances and they can become an important part of this team," Maresca told the club's media.
George has been officially promoted to Chelsea's first team but occasionally plays for the development squad to maintain and improve his match fitness.
The 18-year-old has scored once and registered five assists in just eight Premier League 2 appearances, highlighting his attacking threat and playmaking abilities.
With his consistent performances at both youth and senior levels, George appears to be on the path to establishing himself as a regular feature for Chelsea.
