Surprised Victor Moses Has His Say On That Penalty Not Awarded By Turkish Referee
Published: June 27, 2018Chelsea right wing-back Victor Moses has said that Turkish referee, Cuneyt Cakir, made the wrong call when he failed to award a penalty to Nigeria in the closing minutes of their 2-1 loss to Argentina on Tuesday.
Four minutes into the second half, the official had pointed to the spot after Javier Mascherano pulled Leon Balogun by the shirt, and the Super Eagles number 11 effortlessly placed the ball in the net.
''It's a shame to lose in such a match, It was hard to play against Messi and the rest. As regards to the penalty, it was exactly. Strange that it was not given, I was very surprised,'' Victor Moses told reporters post-match.
''The referee thought that it was a penalty, but then went to watch the VAR and did not award it.''
Asked if he had any complaints that the referee added only four minutes of injury time at the end of the second half, Moses answered : ''It's not that important, three or four, I do not think that it influenced the game.
''To be honest, they (Argentina) have a very strong team, we played well and did not deserve to lose.''
Moses started and completed every single game played by the Super Eagles in the 2018 World Cup.
