U20WWC: FIFA Clarifies On Who Scored Nigeria's Equalizer Against China
Published: August 14, 2018FIFA has clarified that Rasheedat Ajibade did not score the equalizer in Nigeria's 1-1 draw with China at the ongoing U20 Women's World Cup France 2018, despite the goal initially credited to her by the Swiss-based organization.
Substitute Aishat Bello's inviting cross saw Ajibade challenge for the ball with China right-back Jiaxing Dou and the ball struck the defender before ending up in the back of the net.
As a result of Fifa's verdict, the Falconets skipper only has one goal to her name, against Haiti in the second group match.
Ajibade tweeted shortly after yesterday's game at Stade du Clos Gastel, Dinan-LΓ©hon : ''The goal tooday has been given as an own goal by π¨π³ but I will take that anyday ππΏ .
''We are throughWell done team πͺπΏ ππ³π¬π! To God be the glory. Room for improvement but will enjoy the day ! #Togetherwearestronger #RA08 #U20WWC #Team9jaStrong''.
Nigeria's reward for finishing second in a tough Group D is a quarterfinal showdown with one of the emerging forces in women's football, Spain, at the Stade Guy Piriou, Concarneau on August 16.
