Nigerian Goalkeeper Ogbebor-Onaiwu Shines On Debut For Stevenage U18s
Published: August 15, 2018Former Nigeria U23 invitee Edward Ogbebor-Onaiwu made his maiden appearance for Stevenage U18s as they claimed a 2-1 win against Milton Keynes Dons in the Youth Alliance on Tuesday afternoon.
The 17-year-old was left out of the Stevenage squad that played out a 2-2 draw with Peterborough U18 in their opening match of the new season, manager Jorden Gibson chose the U23 goalkeeper Will Appleyard ahead of the Nigerian.
Ogbebor-Onaiwu performed admirably on his Stevenage debut, his ball distribution was good and his kicking was clean throughout the game from the deck.
He also communicated excellently with his teammates over the course of ninety minutes and the highlight of his performance was saving a shot from six yards in the second half.
MK Dons took the lead in the second half through Jamie Robinson who tapped in from close-range following a cut back from Martin, Marcus Gouldbourne restored parity before Jack Smith scored with a header to secure all three points for Stevenage.
Ogbebor-Onaiwu turned out for the youth teams of Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic and AFC Wimbledon before his summer move to Stevenage.
