Former Liverpool Star Absolves Iwobi of Blame For Bournemouth's Goal
Published: November 25, 2018Nigeria international Alex Iwobi has been exonerated from any blame for Bournemouth's goal in Arsenal's 2-1 win over Edie Howe's side at the Vitality Stadium.
Arsenal had gone ahead through an own goal scored by Jefferson Lerma but were pegged back by Joshua King with a fantastic strike just before half time when Iwobi lost possession inside the Bournemouth penalty box which culminated in the Bournemouth counter attack.
"They've been excellent," Jamie Redknapp said of Bournemouth at half time on Sky Sports.
"[David] Brooks, his left foot all game has caused Arsenal problems. That's a really good finish, it's not top corner I must say, I'm not sure about the keeper.
"But I just want to look at it from Arsenal's point of view, because it is really sloppy. There's a player I want to highlight and it's Hector Bellerin and I also want to highlight David Brooks.
"Now, all I think Hector Bellerin has to do is run back in a straight line as quickly as he can, he's meant to be the quickest in the league.
"For me, he doesn't do enough. I'm going to highlight him again here, there he is. There's Brooks. By that time it's too late and we're talking about two yards.
"If he had made an initial sprint back there is absolutely no doubt they would have stopped that goal.
"I know he's a right-back, but sometimes you've got to run back in a straight line. I think that summed up Arsenal," Redknapp concluded.
Iwobi was replaced by Aaron Ramsey in the 82nd minute of the game which takes them to the fifth position in the Premier League table with 27 points, three less than Tottenham Hotspur who they play next.
