Manchester United Hot Prospect Gomes Hails Nigerian Winger After Setting New UYL Record
Published: December 13, 2018Nigerian winger Shola Shoretire has been hailed by Manchester United top prospect Angel Gomes after making his debut in the UEFA Youth League on Wednesday afternoon.
Shoretire became the youngest United player to appear in an official Youth League/Cup game after replacing Switzerland U19 international Nishan Burkart in the 75th minute against Valencia, aged 14 years, 10 months and 10 days.
The previous youngest player to represent an English club in the UEFA Youth League was Dujon Sterling who was aged 15 years, 1 month and 16 days when he debuted for Chelsea against Sporting CP in December 2014.
Writing on Twitter, Gomes stated : ''2-1 win to finish the group unbeaten. Great result! Also a massive shout out to all the debutants and 14 yr old Shola making his debut 🙌🏽❤️ @ManUtd''.
Shola Shoretire trained with Manchester United U18 and U23 teams in Austria ahead of the start of the 2018-2019 campaign, an indication of how highly rated he is at the club.
He has not been capped by Nigeria or England at youth level.
