Everton 1 Arsenal 0 : Gunners Nigerian Fans Berate Emery For Benching Alex Iwobi
Published: April 07, 2019Arsenal manager, Unai Emery has earned the ire of Arsenal Nigerian fans after opting to leave out Alex Iwobi from the starting XI which contrived to lose 1-0 to Everton on Sunday afternoon.
Iwobi who had earlier started three of the Gunners last five games in all competitions was relegated to the bench here and was only introduced to help salvage matters with less than seventeen minutes left on the clock, a move which had not gone down well with his faithfuls.
Ten minutes into the clash, Phil Jagielka struck the decisive goal for Ademola Lookman's Tofees at Goodison Park to dent Arsenal's hopes of a top four-finish and of course, leave the Nigerian fans fuming at the manager's selection policy.
Below are some of what they had to say on Twitter :
@AjiYerima: @UnaiEmery you cost us this match... Allah ya isa wuta bal bal🔥
@macfrenzy06: Unai Emery sold this match with his selection. The board must probe this horrible selection.
@bolaodus1: Good play by Iwobi he should have been introduced earlier in the game of everton today Mitsul ozil didn't play well today
@rebo_oma: I hope Emery has learnt his lesson now with that senseless starting lineup!ðŸ˜
@EzekielEbo: Emery's selection has cost us this game. Sad
@Theo_Oluwatosin: Best impact thus far @alexiwobi kudos bro
@Mark_ose: Why only 17 minutes? Why so late? Why doesn't Emery make subs in the first half?
@banjeezy: Nwanne iwobi no stress yourself too much biko
@AyobamiO'wyse: Made sense in the 17minsbhe played than Ozil did in over 60mins
@pappucino18: Things definitely changed a bit when Iwobi came on.
