Adebayo Azeez's Newport County Suffer Playoff Heartbreak Vs Tranmere Rovers
Published: May 25, 2019
Newport County tasted defeat as they were beaten 1-0 by Tranmere Rovers in the League Two playoff final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Tranmere Rovers snatched it right at the death, scoring through Connor Jennings in extra time stoppage time to record a win against The Exiles and seal promotion to the League One.
Manager Michael Flynn made his third change when he introduced Nigerian striker Adebayo Azeez as replacement for Jamille Matt in the 103rd minute.
Azeez played a key role in Newport County reaching the playoff final after coming off the bench to win a penalty for his side in the first leg of their playoff clash with Mansfield on May 9, but it was not to be today.
The 25-year-old made his League One debut against Doncaster Rovers on January 19, 2013, eleven days after celebrating his 19th birthday, his only appearance to date in the division.
A product of Charlton Athletic youth team, Adebayo previously wore the jerseys of Wycombe Wanderers, Torquay United, Dagenham & Redbridge, AFC Wimbledon, Partick Thistle and Dover Athletic.
