Why Amoo, Jabaar Were Omitted From Nigeria U17 Starting Line-Up Vs Ecuador
Published: October 30, 2019
For the second successive game at the ongoing FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil, Sidos Academy attacking midfielder Akinkunmi Amoo and Ijebu FC's Ibraheem Jabaar were omitted from the starting line-up as Nigeria became one of the first countries to qualify for the round of 16 following their 3-2 win against Ecuador on Tuesday night.
Based on their performances in the opener against Hungary, the two players had been expected to make the starting line-up against the South Americans but head coach Manu Garba opted to name an unchanged side.
Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Amoo and Jabaar being on the bench was purely a tactical decision as Manu Garba believed they could make a difference off the bench just as they did against the Hungarians.
As for Wisdom Ubani, who subbed out in the 31st minute, officials have insisted that he's not nursing an injury.
You don't need to have a coaching badge to see that the Giant Brillars FC striker was a shadow of himself in the first two matches at the World Cup and it remains to be seen if he will retain his place in the Golden Eaglets starting line-up against Australia on Friday, November 1.
With Nigeria already through the round of 16, Manu Garba will probably make some changes to the starting line-up against the Aussies.
