'There Was Nothing To Play For' - Lille Coach Has No Regrets Benching Osimhen Vs Chelsea
Published: December 11, 2019Lille finished their Champions League campaign for the 2019-2020 season with a 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, a result that saw them finish last in Group H with only one point.
In the post-match press conference monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com, Lille coach Christophe Galtier has insisted that he has no regrets regarding the team that he put up against The Blues, given that his priority is now domestic competitions.
In addition to the top scorer for the club in the Ligue 1 and Champions League, Victor Osimhen, Jonathan Ikoné and captain Jose Fonte were non-playing substitutes against the London opponents.
''I wouldn't say I have regrets regarding my choices. Obviously, as you said, we've got some tough fixtures coming up, Montpellier then a Cup game and Monaco. There was in effect nothing to play for in this game, so I don't have any regrets,'' Galtier told reporters.
''I am also happy I managed to give some players the chance to start in this competition.
''Our objective is clear for the next three games, that's what we are focusing on. We'll see what happens starting from Friday with Montpellier.
''There have been a lot of games back-to-back as well since November.''

Osimhen was named in Lille's starting line-up for Champions League games five times this season, and was on target against Chelsea and Valencia on matchday two and four respectively.
