Ligue 1 Top Scorer Reveals Daniel Amokachi Comparisons At Tunisian Club Monastir
Published: December 22, 2019Super Eagles striker Anthony Okpotu has shared how a club staff at Tunisian club Club Monastir encouraged him to deliver his best performances for the North African side by comparing him with former Everton and Club Brugge striker Daniel 'Da Bull' Amokachi who was a key member of the Super Eagles side to the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup.
Okpotu joined the Maghreb side in the summer and is currently the leading scorer in the Tunisian top flight with six goals in 11 league matches.
The former Lobi Stars marksman spoke with Supersport on magazine programme Naija Made on how he got the motivation to do well after injury setbacks at his previous club.
"I'm the leading goalscorer here in the Tunisian league but we are doing it as a team and I also have the company of (Nigerian midfielder) Moses Orkuma," Okpotu disclosed.
"We always do everything together and we tell ourselves that we are not going to lose.
"In Morocco (Difaa El Jadidi FC) I had several injuries. I never had these many injuries at Lobi."
The Monastir stadium was where the Super Eagles played some of the matches at the 1994 Africa Cup of Nations and won the tournament and in the 2004 AFCON,
"When I arrived at the club here an official of the club spoke to me, Mr Kamal told me about the exploits of players like Okocha and Kanu who were great players.
"He even likened me to 'Da Bull' Daniel Amokachi. He said I should relax that I will do well," Okpotu was in the home based Super Eagles side that were runners up at the 2018 African Nations Championship in Morocco further said.
