Official : Thierry Henry's Montreal Impact Re-Sign Bologna's Nigeria U23 Winger On Loan
Published: January 24, 2020Thierry Henry's Montreal Impact have re-acquired Nigeria U23 international Orji Okonkwo on loan, the Major League Soccer club announced via their official website on Friday, January 24.
Bologna-owned winger Okonkwo will spend the whole of the 2020 season at Montreal Impact and the Canadian club have the option to buy him outright at the end of the season.
As exclusively reported by allnigeriasoccer.com two weeks ago, Arsenal legend Thierry Henry had informed the powers that be at Montreal Impact to re-sign Okonkwo following a string of brilliant performances for the club during a loan spell in 2019.
"Orji was one of the most efficient players on our roster last season," Impact sporting director Olivier Renard told the club's official webpage.
"We are very happy to see him return for another season after watching him gain MLS and youth national team experience in 2019."
Okonkwo ended last season with 8 goals in 28 matches in the American top-flight and helped Montreal Impact win the Canadian Championship.
The 2015 U17 World Cup winner played on loan at Brescia in the second half of the 2017-2018 season.
He was a member of the Dream Team squad to the 2019 U23 Africa Cup of Nations and was on target in a 3-1 win against Zambia in the group stage.
