Exclusive : Nigeria U23 Star Signed Contract Extension With Bologna Before Heading To Montreal Impact
Published: January 27, 2020Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Nigeria U23 international Orji Okwonkwo inked a contract extension with Italian Serie A outfit Bologna before heading to Major League Soccer outfit Montreal Impact on a season-long loan move that will expire in December 2020.
Bologna renewed the contract of the 2015 U17 World Cup winner for two additional seasons, which sees him tied to the Rossoblu until June 30, 2024.
Though Montreal Impact have the option to acquire Okwonkwo on a permanent basis at the end of the 2020 season, Bologna are planning to have him back in Italy in January 2021, provided he impresses again in his second stint as an Impact player.
Okwonkwo has set for himself a target of scoring 15-20 goals in the new season, an achievable feat if you consider that he found the net 8 times in his debut season in Major League Soccer playing as a winger.
In addition, new Montreal Impact manager Thierry Henry has plans to convert the Dream Team VII star from a winger to a striker in the upcoming campaign.
The Bologna loanee could make his second debut for the Canadian champions when they take on Deportivo Saprissa in the CONCACAF Champions League on Thursday, February 20.
