(Photo) Super Eagles Defender Arrives In Barcelona Ahead Of Potential Battle Vs Messi
Published: January 30, 2020Super Eagles star Chidozie Awaziem has arrived in Barcelona ahead of this evening's Copa del Rey clash between Leganes and the Spanish champions at the Camp Nou.
The central defender has been named in Leganes' provisional squad for the round of sixteen match and was pictured arriving in the city earlier today.
It remains to be seen if former Chelsea star Kenneth Omeruo will be involved against the Catalonia outfit as he was not pictured with the team in the photos published.
Leganes manager Javier Aguirre had hinted at the pre-match press conference that he would try to give minutes to the players who have not played much this season.
New Barcelona coach Quique Setien has named a very strong squad to face Leganes, with the likes of Lionel Messi, Griezmann, Ansu Fati, Semedo, Piqué and Rakitic in the 18.
Awaziem has never squared off against Messi since his arrival in Spain as he was a non-playing substitute when Leganes played Barcelona in La Liga back in November.
On the international stage, the Porto loanee watched proceedings from the bench as the Super Eagles lost 2-1 to a Messi-inspired Argentina at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
