Ex-Chelsea Defender Omeruo Becomes 20th Player With Caps For Nigeria To Score In La Liga
Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo opened his goal account in the colours of Leganes in breathtaking fashion on Sunday afternoon, scoring in an important 2-1 win over Real Sociedad in a La Liga game, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

With 49 minutes on the clock, the former Chelsea man rifled home a powerful effort from the centre of the box to the bottom left corner after he was set up by teammate Martin Braithwaite following a corner, thus bringing the score to 1-1.

In doing so, he became the 20th player capped by Nigeria to score in the Spanish top-flight after illustrious names such as Ikechukwu Uche, Christopher Ohenhen, Kalu Uche, Finidi George, Mutiu Adepoju, Odion Ighalo, Samuel Chukwueze, Isaac Success and Obafemi Martins.

Other past and present Super Eagles players to have found the net in La Liga include Victor Obinna, Ramon Azeez, Bartholomew Ogbeche, Rasheed Yekini, Nosa Igiebor, Moses Simon, Emmanuel Amunike, Nduka Ugbade, Brown Ideye and Elderson Echiejile.

The 26-year-old has started 15 La Liga games for Los Pepineros this season, logging 1,324 minutes.

His compatriot Chidozie Awaziem who was yellow carded in the 69th minute for a foul on Nacho Monreal was also on for the entirety of the game at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.

Away to Levante next time out, Leganes are now tied on 18 points with 17th-placed Mallorca as the battle for topflight survival continue to intensify.
