'So Proud Of This Team' - Super Sub Ighalo Reacts As Man Utd Seal Champions League Qualification
Published: July 26, 2020Manchester United will be competing in next season's UEFA Champions League after beating Leicester City 2-0 in the star match of the weekend at the King Power Stadium this evening.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's team had to wait until the 71st minute before getting the breakthrough; Bruno Fernandes converting a spot kick awarded after Jonny Evans charged Anthony Martial from behind in the box.
In injury time, Jesse Lingard sealed the win with the last goal of the Premier League season, stealing the ball from goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel before slotting into an empty net to make it 2-0.
Odion Ighalo played a part in the win, coming off the bench to replace Anthony Martial in injury time - his eleventh appearance as a substitute in the Premier League in United colours - meaning he has to wait until next season to make his full debut.
Nonetheless, the Shanghai Shenhua loanee was delighted that Manchester United achieved their primary objective of finishing in the top four.
Writing on Twitter, Ighalo stated : "So proud of this teamπ΄π΄πͺπΎππΎ"
Chelsea also earned a spot in the Champions League spot by virtue of their fourth place finish after beating Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on the final day of the season.
