Babayaro's 26-Year-Old Champions League Record In Danger Of Being Broken In 2020
Published: November 23, 2020
Borussia Dortmund teenage sensation Youssoufa Moukoko is poised to break a UEFA Champions League record held by retired Nigeria international Celestine Babayaro.
After turning 16 years old last Friday, Moukoko is now eligible to be registered by Borussia Dortmund for the Champions League group stage via the List B.
If handed minutes against Club Brugge on Tuesday night, he would replace Babayaro as the youngest player to have appeared in the UEFA Champions League.
The 1996 Atlanta Olympics gold medalist was 16 years and 87 days old when he started for RSC Anderlecht against FC Steaua Bucureşti on 23 November 1994 , while Moukoko will be 16 years and 4 days tomorrow.
Assuming Moukoko does not feature against Club Brugge, he has another chance to break Babayaro's record if selected against either Lazio (December 2nd) or Zenit St. Petersburg (December 8th).
