United States Ready To Battle Nigeria, England In Race For Arsenal Striker Likened To Osimhen
Published: December 23, 2020Arsenal rising star Folarin Balogun faces a decision over the senior national team to represent.
Born in New York to Nigerian parents nineteen years ago, he is eligible to represent United States, England and Nigeria at international level but is provisionally cap-tied to the Europeans, having featured for the Young Lions at the 2018 U17 EURO.
Balogun's international future is now the subject of speculation following a promising start to his senior career with Arsenal with two goals in five appearances off the bench.
According to Teamtalk, the United States Soccer Federation are hot on the trail of Balogun after convincing another Hale End Academy product in Valencia's Yunus Musah to commit his future to them.
He earned caps for United States U18s in non-binding games after England provisionally cap-tied him.
Balogun has been described as a advanced striker whose strengths are pace, acceleration, finishing, instinct, movement, power and ambidexterity, and he has drawn comparisons with Nigeria's most expensive player in history, Victor Osimhen.
United States are also hoping to beat Nigeria to four other exciting youngsters namely Owen Otasowie (Wolverhampton Wanderers), Chituru Odunze (Leicester City), Daryl Dike (Orlando City) and Ayo Akinola (Toronto) with the quartet handed call-ups for recent international matches.
