'He'll Pay What He Needs To Pay' - Gattuso Not Ruling Out Napoli Fining Osimhen Over Covid-19 Breach
Published: January 04, 2021Coach Gennaro Gattuso has not ruled out the possibility of Napoli fining Victor Osimhen after the striker breached coronavirus rules while in Lagos late last month.
The retired Italy international has admitted that he was partly to blame for the mistake made by the Nigeria international, having given him the green light to travel to his homeland to celebrate his 22nd birthday.
There is talk that Osimhen could be fined up to fifty percent of his gross monthly salary, around 187,500 euros (N106 million) for not observing social distancing rules in addition to not wearing a face mask as he celebrated his birthday.
"When I made a mistake, Marcello Lippi used to say he’d let me stew in my own juices for a while, to recognise what I’d done. That’s what Osimhen has to do now," Gattuso told Sky Sport Italia via Football Italia.
"He has already apologised, he’s a lad who gives his all when working. He made a silly mistake, he knows that.

"I am a coach, I don’t decide fines, especially as I was the one who gave the all-clear for him to return to Nigeria and so both of us were left embarrassed by what happened.
"He made a mistake and he will pay what he needs to pay."

Including Sunday's 4-1 win at Cagliari, Osimhen, who is recovering from a shoulder injury, has missed the last eleven matches played by Napoli and his return date is now uncertain as he is currently self-isolating after contracting coronavirus.
