PSV Eindhoven rising star Madueke insists Nigeria is an option but will decide in the future
Published: March 13, 2021PSV Eindhoven rising star Nonso Madueke has stressed that he is eligible to represent the Super Eagles but will make a decision over the national team to represent in the future.
In recent days, there has been talk of the former Tottenham Hotspur attacking midfielder playing for the Netherlands if he stays put in the country for at least two and a half more years.
London-born Madueke is provisionally cap-tied to his country of birth, England having represented the Young Lions at the 2019 U17 EURO qualifiers.
With a goal involvement of seventeen (9 goals, 8 assists) this campaign, Madueke is having a banner season and has insisted he is more focused on his club career rather than the country to play international football for.
Asked about the Dutch national team, Madueke told ESPN : "National team choices, for me it's later on, right now I'm just focusing on my club PSV, but obviously I have admiration for the Dutch team, I think it's a great team, so who knows what will happen in the future.
"Imagine if I got an invitation for the Dutch national team? We'll have to see I'm not sure, obviously I'd be proud if they recognize me as a player that can play for them in the future.
"Maybe in the future it'll be welcome. Of course I don't know if I'll play definitely for the Dutch national team.
