Rangers boss Gerrard confirms Super Eagles defender could be out of action for a few weeks
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has explained why Leon Balogun was omitted from the matchday squad in the 2-1 win against Hibernian in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

The Nigeria national teamer picked up a training ground injury on Saturday that would keep him on the sidelines for a few weeks.

Two days ago, Balogun extended his contract with the Light Blues until June 2022 - a reward for helping the club win their 55th top-flight title in his first season at the Ibrox Stadium.

"I think he must have got too much of a pay rise because it seems to be weighing him down," Gerrard told Rangers TV (via Glasgow Times).

"He got injured yesterday in training unfortunately. We will scan him over the next couple of days. It sounds like he has a calf/achilles injury that we will need to check out.

"Unfortunately he could be missing for a few weeks, which is disappointing because he has been very consistent for us. We are delighted to have him for another year."

Balogun, 32, has recorded 28 appearances in all competitions for Rangers, logging 2,047 minutes.
