Napoli's Osimhen on target but suffers head injury; Simon scores and assists in Nantes big win
Published: May 02, 2021Napoli striker Victor Osimhen and Nantes winger Moses Simon both opened the scoring for their European clubs in league matches on Sunday afternoon.
Napoli and Cagliari shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, with in-form Osimhen breaking the deadlock in the 13th minute.
The Blues number 9 controlled the ball and fired past goalkeeper Alessio Cragno with a left-footed shot after a brilliant ball over the top by Lorenzo Insigne.
After struggling in the first half of the season, Osimhen has looked pretty decent overall since March, scoring six goals and providing an assist in ten league matches.
Gattuso was forced to replace Osimhen in the 76th minute after the striker suffered an injury in a clash of heads with Cagliari center back Luca Ceppitelli.
Elsewhere, Moses Simon will be relieved to return to the scoresheet after a five-game barren spell in front of goal.
Nantes thrashed Brest 4-1 at the Stade Francis le Ble with the Super Eagles winger one of the standout performers for the visitors.
On 15 minutes, Imran Louza's long range shot was parried back into play by goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur; Simon reacted first on the loose ball to open the scoring.
Louza made it 3-0 ten minutes after the restart with Simon providing the assist for the goal.
Three matches to the end of the season, Nantes are still battling to stay in the division as they are currently sitting 18th in the 20-team table.
