Sheffield Wednesday running the rule over Southampton defender Agbontohoma
Published: May 05, 2021EFL Championship strugglers Sheffield Wednesday have handed a trial to promising Anglo-Nigerian central defender David Agbontohoma with a view to a swoop in the summer.
According to Yorkshire Live reporter Dom Howson, Agbontohoma featured for the Owls in their 2-1 win over Watford in a Professional Development League match at Hillsborough on Monday.
Former Flying Eagles invitee Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and ex-Nigeria U23 invitee Osaze Urhoghide were on parade for Sheffield Wednesday.
Agbontohoma is currently on the books of Southampton and signed his first professional contract with the Premier League club in the summer of 2020.
It is believed that the 19-year-old is assessing his options ahead of the 2021-2022 campaign as his contract with the Saints runs out at the end of next month.
The center back joined Southampton on scholarship terms in 2018 after spells with the youth teams of Arsenal and Chelsea.
In the current season, he has appeared in 17 matches in all competitions for Southampton youth teams.
