Chelsea shocked by Arsenal with Anjorin watching from the bench
Published: May 12, 2021Faustino Anjorin watched proceedings from the bench as Chelsea were shocked 1-0 by Arsenal in a London derby at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
With Chelsea chasing the game, manager Thomas Tuchel opted to introduce the more experienced trio Callum Hudson-Odoi, Olivier Giroud and Hakim Ziyech in the second half, leaving the Anglo-Nigerian winger as one of the five outfield players not utilized off the bench.
This is the third time Anjorin has been named in a Premier League matchday squad this season without tasting action.
The usually reliable defensive midfielder Jorginho cost his team a goal after a defensive blunder in the sixteenth minute.
The Italy international saw his back-pass seized upon by Emile Smith-Rowe after goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga tipped it away, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found the Gunners number 32 for an easy tap in.
From that point on, Mikel Arteta's team rode their luck with Kurt Zouma and Giroud hitting the woodwork in the space of seconds as the Gunners recorded their first double over Chelsea for seventeen years.
The win sees Arsenal move to within three points of West Ham who currently occupy fifth position in the table but have played a game less than their London rivals.
