Minnesota United's Opara highest-earning Nigeria-eligible player in MLS, top eleven revealed
Published: May 14, 2021The MLS Players Association released the updated MLS Players Salary Guide for the 2021 season on Thursday.
Of the eleven players eligible to represent Nigeria listed, Minnesota United defender Ike Opara has claimed the title of the top-earning player of Nigerian descent in the American top division.
The 32-year-old pockets a guaranteed compensation (base salary plus pro-rated bonuses) of $685,333.00 a year.
Crystal Palace academy product Mandela Egbo comes second in the list with a salary of $310,700.00 at New York Red Bulls.
Nigeria U23 international Sunusi Ibrahim is the best paid Nigerian-born player but is third when it comes to Nigeria-eligible players, with the former Nasarawa United winger having a contract of $291,250 per season.
Nashville SC's Jalil Anibaba occupies fourth place at $200,000, followed by Chicago Fire's Chinonso Offor who earns $181,400 every year.
Vancouver Whitecaps center forward David Egbo is the least paid player of Nigerian descent, taking home $63,547.
