'The odds are good' - Nigeria target Uduokhai yearns to play for Germany in Olympics
Published: June 03, 2021Augsburg youngster Felix Uduokhai is determined to represent his country of birth Germany in the 2020 Olympic Games which is scheduled to take place in Japan from 23 July to 8 August 2021.
The 1997-born center back had a strong case to be named to Germany's roster for the Olympics but is racing against the clock to be fit having suffered an ankle injury that ruled him out of the European Championship.
Though Annaberg-Buchholz-born Uduokhai has played for Germany at U19, U20 and U21 levels, he is a player of interest to the Nigeria Football Federation and manager Gernot Rohr.
Rohr has consistently namechecked Uduokhai among the German-Nigerian players he wants to persuade to play for the Super Eagles and could make another move for the Augsburg center-back after the Olympics.
On the chances of being on the pitch in Germany's opener against Brazil at the Olympics, Uduokhai said to Transfermarkt : "I think the odds are good. I am in an absolutely positive mood and I really want to see this tournament and experience.
"You probably only have one chance to see the Olympics as a player. I am fully motivated and I give gas so that I can be there".
Uduokhai has been in touch with Germany coach Stefan Kuntz before the announcement of the country's roster for the competition in Japan.
"Stefan got in touch before the operation and asked me what had happened and what the situation was like. So we are in full exchange.
"I am confident enough to say that I will take part in the Olympics and be there on the pitch," he added.
If declared fit to represent Germany in the Olympic Games, Uduokhai is in line to face African opponents Ivory Coast, apart from Brazil and Saudi Arabia in the group stage.
