Brentford hero sends transfer advice to 33-goal striker Toney amid Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs links
Published: June 14, 2021Brentford hero Sam Sodje thinks that Ivan Toney should stay put at the Premier League new boys in the forthcoming season amid interest from more glamorous top-flight teams in England.
The 25-year-old is arguably the most in-demand player that played in the Championship last season after a remarkable campaign that saw him score an astonishing 33 goals in 48 games including the playoffs.
Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are among the Premier League clubs credited with an interest in the former Newcastle United forward.
A fans' favourite during his time at The Bees, Sodje is of the opinion that Toney's game time would be limited if he joins one of the big teams in the Premier League.
"There's a time I was in that position where you play for Brentford and big clubs come for you," Sodje told allnigeriasoccer.com.
"It is hard to advise a player in that situation because you don't know his mindset, his goals.
"Brentford have gone up, Toney had a great season so this might be the opportunity to play for a top of the Premier League club.
"But at the same time you want him to play games in the Premier League so he has to go to a club or stay at Brentford where he'll get games in the Premier League.
"When it comes to individual goals, it's not everyday you get the opportunity to play for Arsenal, Manchester United or the big clubs, so it is a very difficult choice to make.
"There are two things, either you stay at Brentford, play every game or take the opportunity to play for a big club."

In two seasons at Brentford, Sodje scored 14 goals from his defensive position in 100 appearances across all competitions.
