Charlton boss provides update on Arsenal-reared striker amid QPR, Bristol City, Boro, Reading links
Charlton Athletic manager Nigel Adkins has provided an update on the future of onetime Nigeria Football Federation target Chuks Aneke.

The Addicks are keen to retain the services of Aneke and have offered him fresh terms but no agreement has been reached, meaning they could be losing the Arsenal-reared striker for nothing as his current contract runs out at the end of this month.

The offensive all-rounder is very much in demand at the moment, with Queens Park Rangers, Bristol City, Middlesbrough and Reading among the Football League clubs credited with an interest as he approaches the end of his deal.

Aneke was Charlton's top scorer last season, netting sixteen goals in all competitions, including fifteen in the League One.

"We talk about Ben Amos, Chuks Aneke and Adam Matthews, there have been contract negotiations going backwards and forwards," Adkins said to South London Press.

"I know there has been a lot of interest in the three of them, because they are good players."

He added : "We’ll have to wait and see. For example, I spoke to Ben and Chuks yesterday. They know I want them at the football club.

"The players have to make a decision and the agents make a decision for the finances as well. It is the way it is, let’s not hide about it.

"There are many factors now in a player deciding where they want to be. Agents have a big say in it but ultimately the player has got to be happy where they are playing."

The 27-year-old Aneke enjoyed loan spells at Stevenage, Preston North End and Crewe Alexandra during his time at Arsenal, before sealing a permanent transfer to Zulte Waregem in 2014.
