'I've never seen a midfielder like him' - Brentford's Onyeka picks Chelsea star as favourite EPL player
Published: July 30, 2021Super Eagles star Frank Onyeka has reserved special praise for N'Golo Kante, picking the Chelsea star as his favourite player in the English Premier League.
Renowned for his defensive qualities, Kante put in spectacular performances to help Leicester City win the Premier League title in 2016 and made a huge impact when Chelsea won the Champions League last season.
Onyeka revealed that he watched the Premier League growing up as a kid back home in Nigeria and used to keep an eye on Manchester City legend Yaya Toure before Kante moved to England.
Touted as one of the best holding midfielders in Scandinavian football over the last two years, Onyeka sealed a move to Premier League new boys Brentford from FC Midtjylland this month, signing a multi-year contract with the Bees.
"I do of course watch the Premier League, one of the best leagues in the world, I watch Premier League back home and I've been following the Premier League all these years," Onyeka said to Brentford's official website.
On his favourite Premier League player growing up, Onyeka replied : "I'll say Kante. Before he moved to Leicester City I followed Yaya Toure now more of Kante.
"Toure is amazing, good on the ball, the way he plays his own football is amazing, box-to-box midfielder".
He added : "I think it's more of Kante now because I watch him a lot. The way he plays is pretty amazing. I've never seen a kind of midfielder like him.
"But he's different, I am different. He's Kante I'm Frank so we're different. I play my own way, he plays his own way."

Onyeka, 23, made his non-competitive debut for Brentford on Wednesday, playing the last thirty minutes of a 2-2 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford in an entertaining pre-season friendly.
