Official : Promising Nigeria-eligible defender signs new deal at Arsenal
Published: August 03, 2021With a statement on their official website, arsenal.com, Arsenal have confirmed that Nigeria-eligible defender Mazeed Ogungbo has signed a new deal with the club.
A Republic of Ireland underage international, Ogungbo has put pen to paper on his first professional contract with The Gunners.
The left-sided defender, a product of Arsenal's Hale End Academy, was offered fresh terms after starring for the youth teams over the course of the 2020-2021 campaign.
Ogungbo made 14 appearances for the U18s in the league, two for the U23s in the Premier League 2, and was a key member of the FA Youth Cup squad.
On a personal level, one of his best moments in an Arsenal shirt was scoring an 86th minute winner against Rotherham United in the third round of last season's FA Youth Cup.
"I'm just so excited and so grateful to Arsenal that they've given me this opportunity," Ogungbo said.
"To be able to extend my time here is a real honour and I'm really excited for what the future holds here."
Ogungbo is the second teenager of Nigerian descent to sign a new deal at Arsenal ahead of the new season, the other being goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo.
