'Last minute goals are always the best' - West Brom boss on Ajayi's 94th minute winner
Published: August 29, 2021Semi Ajayi's 94th minute winner against Peterborough United on
Saturday night has taken West Brom to second in the EFL Championship standings
after five rounds of matches.
The Nigeria
international has slipped down the pecking order of center backs in the
new season and last night's clash at Weston Homes Stadium was his first
start.
Ajayi made his starting debut of the 2021-2022 season only because Matt Clarke was unavailable for selection due to injury.
Just when it seemed both teams would walk away with a point, the visitors claimed a vital win thanks to Ajayi, who slammed the ball into the net after Phillips delivered a low cross to him.
Baggies boss Valérien Ismaël was delighted that his side were able to score late as there was no time for Peterborough United to score an equaliser.
"It was so emotional. The last minute goals in football are always the best," he told West Brom's official webpage.
"There is always so much energy and emotion. It was a difficult game for us especially with the injuries we have."

Ismaël concluded by saying, "It’s a great win for us, and to win in that way was so special".
Former Arsenal U23 skipper Ajayi has tallied nine goals in 83 appearances for West Brom since his arrival at the club from Rotherham United in July 2019.
