Chelsea academy product Ugbo scores five minutes into his debut for Racing Genk
Published: August 29, 2021Chelsea academy product Ike Ugbo was the hero for Racing Genk as they registered a 1-0 home win against Anderlecht in a Belgian First Division A clash at the Cegeka Arena on Sunday evening.
Five days after completing his transfer to the Belgian Cup winners, the Super Eagles hopeful was handed his debut, coming off the bench to replace Paul Onuachu in the 82nd minute.
Ugbo needed only five minutes to find the back of the net in his first game for Racing Genk.
The number 21 tapped the ball in nicely after a defence-splitting pass from Thorstvedt.
The arrival of the former Chelsea star could see Cyriel Dessers slip down the pecking order of strikers, the Belgian-Nigerian remained rooted to the bench against Anderlecht.
This is the second consecutive season Ugbo has scored on his debut for a Belgian club, having first done so for Cercle Brugge in August 2020.
Genk occupy the fourth position in the standings with 10 points from five games heading into the first international break of the season.
