'I just need to add more goals and assists' - Iwobi agrees with Everton boss
Published: September 08, 2021Alex Iwobi has admitted that he needs to improve one area of his game to become a better player.
Everton boss Rafael Benitez has been left impressed by the performances of the Super Eagles playmaker in the new season but challenged him to add goals and assists to his game.
The stats show that Iwobi's goal contribution has not been significant for an attack-minded player, with five goals and five assists spread across 69 matches since his move to the Toffees.
The Hale End Academy product has revealed that former Liverpool and Chelsea boss Benitez is helping him to improve as he aims to become a classic winger and attacking midfielder.
"The manager is always talking to me and trying to help me. It's helped me a lot so far this season," Iwobi said to Everton TV.
"It’s not just me, of course, but the whole team [he speaks to]. My confidence is playing a big part, too. I’m pushing a bit more up the field and getting involved in attacks.
"I just need to add more goals and assists, like the manager wants. With the manager, he doesn’t give us any rest, he’s onto us 24/7. This is what we need."

Iwobi assisted both of the Super Eagles' goals in the first half of their win against Liberia in their opening match of the 2022 World Cup qualifiers last week.
