Four players of Nigerian descent including ex-Golden Eaglets invitee named in Chelsea's UYL squad
Published: September 09, 2021Chelsea have submitted their squad list for the group stage of the UEFA Youth League following the close of the summer transfer window, with four teenagers of Nigerian descent making the cut.
Former Golden Eaglets invitee Prince Adegoke and fullback Derrick Abu have been selected along with first-year scholars Richard Olise and Tudor Mendel-Idowu.
The quartet are eligible to represent the Blues in the UYL as they were all born after January 1, 2003.
None of the aforementioned players have UEFA Youth League experience and they will be hoping to make their debuts when the two-time champions begin their campaign at Cobham on Tuesday, September 14.
The format of the UEFA Youth League mirrors that of the Champions
League, meaning Chelsea will do battle with Zenit St. Petersburg, Juventus and Malmo in Group H.
Super Eagles defender Ola Aina is Chelsea's record appearance holder in the UEFA Youth League with 20 games spread across three seasons.
Adegoke, Abu and Olise have figured for Chelsea in the U18 Premier League this season while Mendel-Idowu has yet to make his competitive debut for the U18s.
