Nottingham Forest-linked striker Maja doubtful for Bordeaux's clash vs Lens
Published: September 10, 2021Super Eagles striker Josh Maja has been rated as doubtful for Bordeaux's Ligue 1 meeting with Lens at Stade Matmut-Atlantique on Sunday, September 12.
The former Sunderland star has been inactive for Bordeaux since the season started, missing four successive matches.
The last of his 48 appearances for Les Girondins was against FC Lorient back in January.
According to French football expert Clément Carpentier, Maja is recovering from a stress fracture of a vertebra or back injury and Bordeaux have offered no timetable for his return to full training.
The Fulham academy product was heavily linked with a deadline transfer to Championship outfit Nottingham Forest, only for the deal to fall through at the last minute.
Bordeaux president Gerard Lopez was surprised that Maja failed to complete a move away from the club amid reports that he failed a medical.
The 22-year-old has less than two years left on his contract with Bordeaux.
