'His talent doesn't surprise me' - Reading coach hails Super Eagles hopeful after brace vs Fulham
Published: September 19, 2021Reading manager Veljko Paunovic was full of praise for Super Eagles hopeful Ovie Ejaria after his man-of-the-match performance in a 2-1 win over Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday afternoon.
The former Liverpool and Arsenal starlet sent an unstoppable shot past Paulo
Gazzaniga to open the scoring at minute 19, then gave the Royals the
buffer of two goals when he controlled the ball and slotted into the top
corner in the 53rd minute.
Paunovic was keen to highlight that Ejaria is a talented player and always encouraged to fulfill his potential.
The 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup winner with England in 2017 had not scored in the Championship since April 2, 2021 prior to the visit to London.
"Ovie had an amazing performance. His execution was fantastic. We see it in training many times and we encourage him to do it more often in games," Paunovic was quoted as saying by
BerkshireLive post-match.
"It was more difficult in this game because our game plan was asking a lot of the attacking players to work defensively, but every time we gave the ball to him, Halilovic, Swift, Hoilett...there was some excitement and they were very clinical in execution.
"His talent doesn't surprise me. I see it often but we need to work out how to bring the ball to him more in the final third, and the other guys because it has to be more often so we can have similar performances."
Apart from Ejaria, three other exciting young players of Nigerian descent in Tom Dele-Bashiru, Femi Azeez and Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan have been named in Reading's matchday squad for Championship games this season.
