First Arsenal U18s squad involvement for younger brother of Arthur Okonkwo
Published: September 19, 2021Brian Okonkwo is making good progress in his bid to force his way into Arsenal U18s squad whilst still a schoolboy.
Okonkwo was a reserve option as the Gunners defeated West Ham United 2-1 in their opening match of the U18 Premier league Cup at Little Heath Sports Ground (Romford, Essex) on Saturday, September 18.
It was his first squad involvement for Arsenal U18s in a competitive fixture since joining the club.
Brian comes from a goalkeeping family, with his elder brother Arthur Okonkwo also a goalkeeper at Arsenal and was promoted to the first team before the start of this season.
The signs are there that Arsenal will offer Brian a scholarship contract in the coming months, before the start of the 2022-2023 campaign.
He boasts cat-like reflexes, has good command of his box and has showcased his ability to stop shots.
Arsenal U18s maintained their unbeaten start to the season thanks to goals from Khayon Edwards and Charles Sagoe Jr. in the second half.
