Ugbo on target for Genk, ex-Chelsea striker still awaits Fifa clearance to play for Nigeria
Published: October 03, 2021Ike Ugbo is not doing badly at Racing Genk following his summer move from European champions Chelsea.
The former England youth international was on the scoresheet as Racing Genk relinquished a one-goal lead to lose 3-2 to AS Euepn in a Belgian First Division A match on Sunday night.
With twenty minutes left on the clock, Ugbo fired into the roof of the net to put Genk 2-1 up - his second goal for the Limburg club.
Two late goals from Prevljak and Heris, the last coming in the third minute of stoppage time, saw Genk lose for the third time in the league this season.
In what was his second start since switching to Genk, Ugbo made way for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu at minute 72.
Meanwhile, allnigeriasoccer.com understands that Ugbo is concerned that football's governing body FIFA has not given him the green light to play for Nigeria after submitting the necessary documents.
The delay in approving his request for a change of association has prevented him from earning a potential call-up to the Super Eagles for the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
London-born Ugbo won't be eligible to represent England and France while the paperwork is being processed.
