Villarreal's Chukwueze makes his comeback 164 days after he was stretchered off vs Arsenal
Samuel Chukwueze has made his comeback from a long-term injury after coming off the bench during Villarreal's 2-1 loss to Osasuna in a La Liga match staged at Estadio de la Cerámica on Sunday evening.

It was the winger's first match for club and country since he was stretchered off the pitch in a Europa League semifinal clash versus Arsenal 164 days ago, specifically on May 6, 2021 at the Emirates Stadium in London.

Chukwueze replaced the Nigerian-born cap-tied Netherlands international Arnaut Danjuma in the 78th minute.

The 2015 U17 World Cup winner was brought on by ex-Gunners manager Unai Emery to help the Yellow Submarine get a winning goal but it was Los Rojillos who snatched all three points courtesy of Chimy ávila's strike in the 87th minute.

Lucas Torró  put Osasuna ahead in the 26th minute and Villarreal had to wait until the 56th minute for an equaliser when Gerard Moreno volleyed past goalkeeper Sergio Herrera.

Chukwueze's return from injury has put him in the frame to be included on the Super Eagles roster for next month's 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.

The 22-year-old is in line to make his Champions League debut when Villarreal take on Young Boys on Wednesday.
