AFCON 2021 : Bologna's Michael ruled out of tournament after fracturing left fibula
2015 U17 World Cup-winning midfielder Kingsley Michael will not be an option for the Super Eagles at the 2021 African Cup of Nations holding in Cameroon early next year.

Michael suffered a compound fracture to his left fibula during the second half of Bologna's Serie A meeting with Udinese on Sunday afternoon.

The one-cap Nigeria international entered the game as a substitute in the 56th minute but lasted only seventeen minutes on the Dacia Arena turf before going off injured.

Michael went under the knife, with  Dr. Roberto Bevoni and his team at the Bentivoglio Hospital on Monday afternoon, Bologna said in a press release yesterday.

The expected length of recovery following the surgery is four months, meaning he is not expected to return to the pitch until mid-February, assuming his rehabilitation goes according to plan.

Thus, Michael will miss out on the Super Eagles squad to the tournament in Cameroon which ends on February 6, 2022.

The 22-year-old is behind Wilfred Ndidi, Joe Aribo, Oghenekaro Etebo who is also sidelined until next year, Frank Onyeka and Innocent Bonke in manager Gernot Rohr's pecking order of central midfielders ahead of the AFCON.
