'I have not said yes or no' - Ex-Man Utd striker Ighalo confirms decision to retire still stands
Published: October 29, 2021Allnigeriasoccer.com broke the news on Tuesday
that Odion Ighalo still stands by his decision to retire from international football
despite holding talks with Nigerian Federation boss Amaju Pinnick and Gernot Rohr.
It means the former Manchester United striker is not at the
disposal of the Super Eagles coach for the games next month, amid strange speculation in the local media that he was going to make a return for the upcoming 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Liberia and Cape Verde.
Ighalo, himself, has confirmed that he has still not decided whether to make a comeback to the team.
Allnigeriasoccer.com has chosen not to go into details on the real reason he quit the national team at the age of 30, but the official word is that he wanted to give the younger players in the Super Eagles a chance, coupled with the traveling distance from Asia to Africa.
"They have been in contact with me about the possibility of coming back, Amaju and coach," Ighalo told ESPN.
"I don't know. I have not said yes or no. I haven't made any decision concerning the national team."
Ighalo has been in blistering form for Al-Shabab since the start of the 2021-2022 campaign and his strike against Al Tai on Thursday took his tally to nine goals from ten appearances in the Saudi Professional Football League.
