Eguavoen reveals what worries him the most about Super Eagles defending ahead of AFCON
Interim Nigeria boss Augustine Eguavoen has expressed his concern about how the Super Eagles are defending as a team ahead of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

The three-time African champions were badly exposed during the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers when they conceded four goals in one game against Sierra Leone.

Defensive partners William Troost-Ekong and Leon Balogun made errors leading to goals in World Cup qualifying matches against Central African Republic and Cape Verde at home.

Playing a high line, the defence was caught napping in the build up to Cape Verde's opener on matchday two of the World Cup qualifiers at Estádio Nacional de Cabo Verde.

Eguavoen has admitted that he needs to work on the defence the most but refused to blame the Super Eagles players individually for their performances.

Asked on the position that he needs to work on the most at the upcoming training camp, Eguavoen replied : "Defence. Responsibility is not left for defenders alone, not just the back four.

"When I say defence I mean the entire team have to defend, the entire eleven players."

On the performance of the Super Eagles defenders currently, he said : "Defence I am very satisfied, what I am saying is working as a team to defend is more of my concern not just leaving defensive responsibilities for the back four alone".
