AFCON-bound Ighalo scores and assists to inspire Al Shabab FC to win
Former Manchester United striker Odion Ighalo netted his eleventh goal in all competitions to inspire Al-Shabab to a 3-1 win over Al Taawon in a Saudi Professional Football League clash at Prince Faisal bin Fahd Stadium, Riyadh on Monday, December 27.

In his penultimate match before reporting for international duty, Ighalo placed the ball into the bottom corner after a delightful pass from Moteb Al Harbi midway through the first half.

Al Taawon did not trail for too long as Iago Santos equalised with a header on 33 minutes but Carlos scored three minutes later to ensure Al-Shabab led 2-1 at the interval.

The scoring was rounded off eight minutes from time when Hattan Bahebri slotted home from inside the box after a clever pass from Ighalo.

The win leaves Al-Shabab second in the standings with 28 points after fourteen matches, one less than table toppers Al Ittihad who have a game in hand.

In the Saudi Pro League charts, Ighalo leads the way followed by Al Nassr's Talisca with nine goals.

The 32-year-old could play a key role for the Super Eagles at the Africa Cup of Nations with uncertainty surrounding the fitness of Victor Osimhen and the unavailability of Paul Onuachu.
