Osimhen's bogus fitness concerns : Napoli coach proved right as Super Eagle goes 90 vs Lazio
Published: February 28, 2022Speculation over the availability of Victor Osimhen for Nigeria's upcoming games against Ghana has been put to rest for the time being after the number nine started for Napoli in their Serie A meeting with Lazio on Sunday night.
Luciano Spalletti made it clear at the pre-match press conference before the visit to the capital that Osimhen had a good chance of playing the full ninety against Lazio and he has been proved right with the Super Eagles star going the distance in last night's clash.
Before the matchday 27 clash, you had to go back to October 28, 2021 for the last time Osimhen logged the full ninety in a Serie A game and it came against Bologna.
The former Lille man has gradually been brought back into the starting lineup since recovering from a serious facial injury that kept him sidelined for two months and saw him pull out of the Nigeria squad to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.
With the two Milan clubs dropping points, Napoli did not spurn a golden opportunity to move top in the Serie A, leaving it late to beat the Biancocelesti 2-1 to seize control of the title race.
In an incredible game at Olimpico di Roma, Napoli looked dead and buried after conceding an 88th minute equaliser but Fabián Ruiz scored the game-winning goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.
