Iheanacho reveals words of encouragement received from Rodgers before joining action vs Leeds
Kelechi Iheanacho has provided an insight into manager Brendan Rodgers' words to him before he stepped off the bench during the second half of Leicester City's 1-0 win over Leeds United on Saturday.

The only goal of the game did not arrive until the 67th minute when Harvey Barnes played a one-two with Iheanacho inside the area, he got the ball back and curled a low effort past Meslier and into the bottom corner.

The match-winning assist by Iheanacho meant he has set up his teammates nine times so far in 2021-2022 - a career best for the Nigeria international as a professional.

The former Manchester City wonderkid has seen his game time limited since returning from Africa Cup of Nations duty late January, logging 76 minutes from a possible 450 in the Premier League, and is looking for more game time in the business part of the season.

"I just needed to play my football. I just needed to go and fight and help my team-mates and that’s exactly what I did," Iheanacho said to LCFC TV.

"He encouraged me a lot and I got on the pitch, I was helping my mates out, and creating is so, so important – and so is the spirit and togetherness.

"We fought until the end to get the victory."

Iheanacho is expected to play a starring role for the Super Eagles later this month when they face off with Ghana in back-to-back 2022 World Cup playoff matches.
