Anglo-Spanish-Nigerian teenager trains with Arsenal first team ahead of visit of Leicester
Published: March 12, 2022Miguel Azeez was promoted to Arsenal first team training on Saturday, a day before the London side welcome Leicester City to the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League.
Spanish football tactician Mikel Arteta monitored the Hale End Academy graduate during Arsenal's final workout at London Colney with a view to his inclusion in the matchday 20.
Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka, Albert Sambi Lokonga and Mohamed Elneny who are all ahead of Azeez in Arteta's pecking orders of central midfielders also participated in the training sessions, so it would be a tall order for Azeez to be selected in the squad to face Leicester City.
Azeez's first and only call-up for a Premier League game was on April 11, 2021 when he was an unused substitute against Sheffield United.
His loan spell at Portsmouth did not go according to plan and he was recalled from the League One club in the January transfer window.
The Anglo-Spanish-Nigerian teenager, who was previously tipped to become a first team star in future, has been playing for the development squad since returning to Arsenal.
Goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo also trained with the first team today, three days after he was in goal for the U23s in the Premier League Cup.
