Nigeria-eligible GK at the Emirates Stadium but not in squad as Arsenal are beaten by Liverpool
Published: March 16, 2022Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino were on target as Liverpool defeated Arsenal 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium Wednesday night and are now a point adrift of league leaders Manchester City.
Nigeria eligible goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo who is Arsenal’s third choice goalkeeper arrived the stadium as the 21st Arsenal in the course of the tensed game.
Okonkwo was not named in the 20-man matchday squad for the Liverpool game but emerged as the player most likely to come into the team should either first choice Aaron Ramsdale or out-of-favour substitute keeper Bernd Leno cops an injury.
The goalkeeper has not been in between the goal for the Gunners this season but has played in six matches in the Premier League 2 for his club.
The first half ended goalless with Arsenal breaking up every Liverpool onslaught and also having their fair share of goal scoring chances.

Liverpool broke Arsenal’s resistance in the 54th when Diogo Jota let fly a low shot that beat Ramsdale at the near post. Jota was immediately substituted by Mohamed Salah after his effort.
Substitute Firmino doubled the Reds' lead barely two minutes later from a goal-mouth scramble.
