Derby boss Wayne Rooney confirms Irish-Nigerian fullback will sign for Italian club
Published: March 18, 2022Derby County boss Wayne Rooney has confirmed that Republic of Ireland youth international of Nigerian descent, Festy Ebosele will sign for an Italian club within the next week.
Ebosele is permitted to sign a preliminary contract with a foreign club as his deal with The Rams expires on June 30, 2022 but the English club will receive compensation for the transfer.
Derby County are in administration, meaning they cannot make new signings nor offer deals to their current playing staff.
Born in 2002, the Irish-Nigerian teenager has two goals in 35 all-competition appearances for Derby County since making his professional debut during the 2020-2021 season.
Speaking at a press conference ahead of Derby's Championship clash with Coventry City, Rooney said : "Festy Ebosele within the next week will sign for a team in Italy.
"I think there will be some announcement next week, it is purely out of my control. I would have liked him to stay."
Italian transfer market guru Gianluca Di Marzio writes on his website that Ebosele will sign a contract with Udinese on Friday having undergone a medical examination early last month.
He will link up with Nigeria international striker Isaac Success at the Bianconeri as from next season.
